What I am doing now

You are most likely here because you enjoy crafting. I have been reading up on some of the WoW issues regarding gold making, which make me realize that WoW is not the game for me.

If you want to play a game where gathering and crafting is the cornerstone of the economy, and are not faint of heart, I recommend EVE Online. EVE even has releases purely to support industry. You can play for free if you are good enough manufacturer or trader.

Be the builder in a villainous world.

Gold sellers now leaving breadcrumb comments on our blogs

Gold sellers are becoming creative.

  • There is a site out there that copies my posts onto their site so it looks interesting, changing just enough to remove all references to my site.
  • I have now seen a relevant, on topic response on two blogs; mine and and another, where the link was to a gold selling site.
I have not been interested in making the very very few dollars from general advertising or selling gold guides, though I can accept that others are.

Apparently buying a game time card with in-game gold is officially a grey line (citation needed but I did see a blue post on this recently.  Edit: Went looking for the citation and did not find it; but found plenty contradicting it).  Outright buying or selling gold for real life cash is not permitted.  Botting is not permitted.  These are the rules of the game.

I will not knowingly link to gold sellers.  This includes removing comments where either the name or the post links to gold selling websites.

I read the RSS feed on the comments to this blog, and not just for vanity.  Sometimes I get an interesting question (I love those), other times I catch a dodgy post.

Blogger and wordpress (the software that most of the wow goldmaking bloggers use) both allow you to track comments.  This is worth doing.

  1. Wait you're not talking about me are you. I linked to your blog, i didnt copy. Anyway if you decide not to publish my comment again that's fine I can take a hint and wont comment anymore. Thanks for letting me defend my method against Bree on a neutral ground.

  2. Yup, I've seen comments like those for various businesses as well. Usually my spam filter does a good job, 60k blocked comments so far. Also look out for sites that just add your RSS feed to do a full copy on their site. Although I think it is legal due to creative commons and if they link back to you. Still, seeing a mirror image of your posts on another site sucks.

  3. I've seen a few here and there my way but like you said foo blogger does a fair job and I catch any on older posts (15+ days old) by requiring all of them to be approved. I also get alerted (email) whenever someone comments which means I catch any on recent posts sooner rather than later.

  4. Licencing is a pain.

CG : Your my favorite troll & keep me honest. I disagree with some of your views, but happy to keep you commenting. I've even done some mild trolling on this blog myself - fishing for comments. I did find one of your comments hiding in my 'spam' bin, and once I found it, I published it.

'We are not amused' when another site lifts content, pastes it into their own, without any reference to who Foo is. As such, I have formalised the licence by which my work can be distributed - see the footer.

For the record, I am happy with any site linking me via RSS feed - providing they credit this blog as the source. This even counts for sites that I may disagree with. This blog is public, as is the 'Foo' personality. (Note: the real life person behind Foo is a comparitavly private personality). Your traditional blog link (with text) is great. Theundermine journal's extended linking is great.

For those too lazy to read the CC licence:
    You are free:

    * to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
    * to Remix — to adapt the work
    * to make commercial use of the work

    Under the following conditions:

    * Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
    * Share Alike — If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.

    With the understanding that:

    * Waiver — Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
    * Public Domain — Where the work or any of its elements is in the public domain under applicable law, that status is in no way affected by the license.

    * Other Rights — In no way are any of the following rights affected by the license:
    o Your fair dealing or fair use rights, or other applicable copyright exceptions and limitations;
    o The author's moral rights;
o Rights other persons may have either in the work itself or in how the work is used, such as publicity or privacy rights.

Any questions about whether it is allowed or not - just drop a comment.

  5. Every time I've seen blue posts, it's that buying anything physical or outside the game -- like a game card! -- for gold is not allowed. Lots of scams going on now with pet codes, it seems, using stolen CC numbers and chargebacks.

  6. To protect yourself, try to include links in every post you write that go to other pages on your site relate to the article. This way you can get those people reading the fake article hopefully over to your real site.

I used to hate the dozens of sites copying my articles until I realized it was an opportunity for growth.

    Hope that helps.

  9. STOP BUYING GOLD: Gold rates are going down in this month as per the sources said. So do not invest your money on Gold now.

Due to the blog mostly being inactive and the only comments recently being anonymous spam; I have restricted comments to "Registered Users"; hat includes anything google recognises as an account (google, openId, wordpress etc). I am still (mostly) active on foo-eve.blogspot.com

Blogger comments supports basic html. You can make a link 'clicky' by <a href="http://yoursite/yourpage">yoursite/yourpage</a>

Disagreements are welcome - especially on speculative posts. I love a great disagreement.

I have a comment moderation policy (see the pages at the top)
