What I am doing now

You are most likely here because you enjoy crafting. I have been reading up on some of the WoW issues regarding gold making, which make me realize that WoW is not the game for me.

If you want to play a game where gathering and crafting is the cornerstone of the economy, and are not faint of heart, I recommend EVE Online. EVE even has releases purely to support industry. You can play for free if you are good enough manufacturer or trader.

Be the builder in a villainous world.

3.3.3 PTR LFG changes

www.wow.com/.../patch-3-3-3-ptr-random-dungeon-finder-changes ...
  • The Deserter debuff given to players who leave a dungeon prematurely when queuing via the Random Dungeon option has been increased to 30 minutes, up from 15 minutes. The cooldown for using the Random Dungeon option remains 15 minutes.
  • ...
  • Anyone in a dungeon party can now re-queue their group for a dungeon, as players will still be prompted whether or not to accept their chosen role.
  • Players who use the Vote Kick option will now be prompted to provide a reason for kicking a party member. This reason will be presented to everyone in the party except for the person voted to be kicked.
  • When joining as a group, more generous level requirements will be used instead of Random Dungeon level requirements so that players of different levels joining together will be eligible for a greater number of dungeons.
  • World Event bosses (such as Ahune for the Fire Festival) will now be accessible through the Dungeon Finder. Players must use the Dungeon Finder to access these bosses.
  • ...
There are some other tidy up changes, that will make things cleaner - but otherwise have no effect.  However, I see that this has some minor implications - with the biggy at the end:

  • More people will run Occulus.  This probably is one of Blizzard's main objectives.  You might not mind missing out on 15 minutes, but missing out on 30 is too much for you, so stuff it - you run anyway.
  • Vote to kick reason : Simply fantastic.  This (hopefully) solves my accidental kick instead of inspect problem, as well as encourages a second thought.  However, most people already know why a kick was initiated.
  • The level requirements change is good.  Having tried to level an alt as heals while a guildy levelling a tank, with one of us being (i think) 39.8 and the other being 40.2, but not being able to roll a random dungeon was a pain.  However specific instances already worked.
  • I like the world boss event change, but only because I am too darn lazy to use the teleport scroll to Moonglade (for elders).
  • Unhappy DPS will put up with being unhappy for longer.
But the big unintended consequence - Tanks : Those that are running as tank will get an even bigger god complex (Yes - I run a DK tank).
  • There are already not enough tanks.
  • Tanks normally have instaqueuue instnaces. We will still dessert. There is no apparent difference to us between 15 mins / 30 mins. To us - its no difference.  I've heard that DPS already wait this much time normally.  When we desert a run because of real (or imagined) slights, we are out longer. (Did I mention god complex).
  • More crud tanks will attempt to fill the gap.  Fortuneatly some of these will be adequate for instances and some may eventually be available for raids.

  1. I do not see how an extra 15 minutes are going to change too many people's minds about Oc. I did a couple, but don't any more. My feeling is that Blizzard keeps statistics on these things. So why not add just another vote against bad ideas like this.
